The Symptom Assessments and Health Planner functions have been written by the medical staff of our service providers, Expert-24 Limited and reviewed by an independent UK Expert Medical Review Panel.
The independent Expert Medical Review Panel consists of GPs and specialists who have reviewed the sites content. The panel is chaired by Professor John Henry, Professor of Accident and Emergency Medicine at Imperial College, St Mary's Hospital London.
Dr John Fletcher has led the research and statistical modelling behind the Health Planner Risk Assessments. Dr Fletcher is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Oxford Department of Public Health and an Associate Editor for the British Medical Journal. He holds a Masters degree in Public Health Quantitative Methods and is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
The credentials of the Expert Medical Review Panel are all available in the Medical Policy area. The Medical Encyclopaedia content is sourced from the most recent edition of the Complete Family Health Guide by Dorling Kindersley which itself has stringent quality assurance standards.
All material is subject to review at least annually and the Waiting List data is updated monthly.
The clinical content is independent and unbiased no advertising is permitted on the site and Norwich Union has no involvement in the creation of the clinical content or in any decision-making of the Expert Medical Review Panel.
All the GPs and specialists are very experienced in their specific fields and have been selected to sit on the review panel for that reason. All practising doctors are registered with the General Medical Council. The Patients Association, presided over by Claire Rayner, is also supporting Personal Health Manager.
We employ the following measures to protect the security of your information:
If you use Personal Health Manager with your personal username and password, and you keep these confidential, you have control over which members of your family are able to see your personal medical information. On registering yourself as a user, the default position is that no-one in your family can see your records unless you specifically allow them to. For instructions on how to change your access rules, please see below.
No. We promise never to use your personal data to inform any insurance decision. We hold personal data for the limited purposes of user registration, service provision, record retention and investigation of any complaints.
Norwich Union Healthcare has been working with the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) to ensure that Personal Health Manager is accessible to our visually impaired customers. However, certain elements of the site cannot be used without assistance. Those customers unable to access these sections can still continue to use the GP Helpline.
There is plenty of good-quality material available on the internet if you know where to look. We have sought to do something different. We believe our service is unique in the following respects:
